Case Study: 360º Feedback

The Challenge

A large statutory body (5000+ employees) made a commitment to develop the leadership capability of 160 members of its senior technical workforce.  The consulting brief was to facilitate 360º Feedback for these staff and to initiate leadership action planning.

How We Helped

Partnering with the organisation’s leaders, the consulting team designed a program encompassing:

  1. 360º Feedback on key leadership skills;
  2. executive coaching and debriefing of 360º Feedback;
  3. development of leadership action plans with specific, behaviourally-based objectives; and
  4. help with leadership development through experiential learning modules and in-role assignments.

Specifically, the consultants:

  1. developed a customised leadership framework reflecting national leadership competencies and the specific priorities for this organisation;
  2. provided a choice between two 360º Feedback delivery options (on-line and conversation based);
  3. developed guides for participants, managers and feedback contributors;
  4. customised a 360º Feedback report;
  5. provided a team of coaches who facilitated executive coaching support to 160 senior technical people located in 26 locations across a region of approximately 90,000 square kilometres;
  6. debriefed feedback, facilitated discussion with line managers and participants and initiated behaviourally focussed action planning;
  7. provided ongoing support to project leaders regarding strategy and action; and
  8. provided summary and group data to assist with identifying further development needs.

The Outcomes

The program has created a starting point for technical officers’ leadership journey, with the program culminating in individual plans of action upon which each person can build and progress.  Action plans are linked to Performance Appraisal and Development discussions for each individual.
